Overall PC Architecture

PartsOfaComputer-Web - PartsOfaComputer-Topics

The Personal Computer or PC was developed in the late 1970's

Before the specifications of the PC standardized the equipment, people were making their own.

The HomeBrew Computer Club was a gathering of people who hacked their own computers out of available components.

The IBM corporation created a set of specifications for common components.

The early PCs were called IBM clones.

The IBM specifications constrained the physical size, electricity needs, data transfer and more.

In our times, a PC consists of a computer case, power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, Monitor, Network, Keyboard, Mouse, CD/DVD drive, USB and Serial/Parallel ports.

Other devices can be added to the PC, such as printers, scanners, sound systems, lasercutters, 3D printers, fans, lights, and a bunch more.

Casemods are a way that people can modify the physical format of the computer.

Many of the components in the computer are sensitive to static electricity.

You can control static discharge while working on the computer by holding the computer case when you work, or you can use a static wrist band that connects you to the computer.

When you plan to build a computer, you should research the compatiblity of the components.

If you build your own, you can make a custom specified computer, possibly at a lower price than buying your own.

You can scavenge parts off of other computers to make your own.
